We asked Chris Hovington, Group Leasing Manager at Praxis Real Estate Management to sit down with us and talk about working alongside the teams at Sherrards. He says, “We work with Sherrards as often as we can.” We say “The feeling is mutual!”

“We’ve used Sherrards for probably over 20 years. We recommend Sherrards on a regular basis to landlords and occupiers who don’t really have an idea about which solicitors to use, and we push Sherrards because I’ve used them for a long time, for many reasons.

I personally deal with Terry Fendt, Stephanie Kierans, on the commercial property team, and they are probably the most commercial and astute solicitors I think you would come across. Yes, I have used other departments, litigation and commercial property transactions, so houses and flats. I have used other solicitors within the firm and they’re equally as good.

We get canvassed and approached an awful lot by landlords and mostly occupiers, and they don’t have a clue about the property process. So we can guide them through acquiring a property, we can find the locations, we know about every town and every city in the UK. But when it comes to dealing with a solicitor, we want the solicitors to be as quick as possible within the transaction, before people change their minds.

Landlords can change their minds, occupiers can change their minds, the longer they have to deal with it, the more chance there is of the deal falling out of bed. So when we recommend Sherrards, we know for a fact that they will deal with it as quick as anyone. So we do recommend Sherrards as often as we can.”

“I’ve known Sherrards for too many years. So I first met Alistair way back in probably 1995 and since then, we’ve just naturally, our two businesses normally coexist together because of what we do for a living. 

So obviously he’s got a good professional team around him, which makes it even easier. So you know how that’s grown and developed over the years, as you would expect from a good law firm like Sherrards. It’s really successful and easy to work with, good communicators. You know, that’s a prerequisite of working with any law firm, but Sherrards do it really well. 
 
We would normally refer Sherrards where we have a particular client need. We cover a wide area, so we deal with a lot of law firms, but in certain circumstances where Sherrards’ expertise are required, definitely with them.”

We asked Prem Shergill, IFA at Grosvenor Wealth Management, to speak to us about how the Sherrards Private Client team supports her and her clients. Prem kindly shares how her clients are often referred to our Private Wealth teams to help her clients to protect their assets.

“So my connection with Sherrards is primarily with the private client department, and so we help our clients to make sure they’ve got wills in place, powers of attorney in place, and unfortunately when death occurs, then we want to obviously help and get Sherrards’ assistance in helping them process the grant of probate and then finally distribute their estate. 

Everyone at Sherrards is really friendly. They’re very professional, full of knowledge and expertise, and most importantly they are so good, they will pick up the phone and speak to a client that has an enquiry to see how they can help and assist them. 

I work closely with the private client department, in particular it’s Nicole, and I work with members of her team, and primarily at the moment it’s with Charles Burrell. They’re very professional and extremely polite, and yeah, they’ve got all departments to cater for all different clients and advice they could potentially need.”

We asked Anne-Maree Dunn, Client Partner and Head of Tax at WMT to sit down with us and talk about working alongside the teams at Sherrards. This comes as part of our client testimonial video project to showcase the Sherrards teams, the people we support and how we support them.

“So looking after tax issues and looking after clients, they have lots of legal issues arise. So everything from, I work with loads of people in the Sherrards team, so private clients will need wills, trusts advice, on powers of attorney. 

I have a specialism in dealing with companies, particularly that need restructuring or selling, or getting ready for sale, or need commercial agreements, shareholder disputes. I work really closely with a couple of the people, Kyle and Leigh, in the corporate team at Sherrards, who are brilliant. They’re really practical, really down to earth, and they’re my first point of call when I need some advice for clients. 

So across the whole team they’re very open, friendly, find that clients just gel with them really easily, and they don’t stick to the legal speak. They give good, practical, down to earth advice, which is what we like to try and do for our clients as well. So it’s a good fit. 

They’re really practical, really helpful, and really knowledgeable. I would trust them, so I suppose trustworthy, experienced, but they just get it. They get business and they get people.”

We asked Geoff Kent, Managing Director of Kent Family Nurseries Ltd to sit down with us and talk about working alongside the teams at Sherrards. “Well, we’re 10 years old this year and we go right back to when we first explored the franchise as a new family business. We got involved with getting advice from Leigh at Sherrards about franchising, franchise agreements, and all the legal aspects of that. 

It was a voyage of discovery back then because we didn’t know too much about it, but he was very helpful, very supportive, and explained everything in a lot of detail, and made us confident with the leap that we made, which has proved to be very successful. 

Well, as with any business, there’s challenges right across the board, and we started with Lee advising us on franchising. He’s since worked with us on a fairly big acquisition for us. We’ve worked with Terry and Steph in the property team, who most recently helped us buy the freehold of one of our businesses, which is a really big thing for us. 

We work with Mark Fellows on employment law, and we work with Melissa, who’s helping us with our challenges on recruiting people from abroad in immigration matters as well. So right across the board, I have to say the expertise and the support has been great from everybody.
