As part of Sherrards’ continued commitment to strengthening ties with international partners, Partner Laurel Zhang recently embarked on a series of international engagements across Asia and Europe. These trips opened up valuable opportunities to exchange insights on cross-border business developments and to deepen collaborative relationships with global professionals.

Forging Links Across the Asia Pacific

In mid-April, Laurel attended the Alliott Global Alliance Asia Pacific Regional Conference, which brought together around 30 delegates from across the region. The conference offered valuable discussions on everything from investment strategies to international connections and the frameworks influencing cross-border work. Laurel took part in insightful discussions , gaining a deeper understanding of regional priorities and business drivers – giving her and the Sherrards team a better perspective into the challenges clients face when navigating different jurisdictions.

Strategic Law Firm Meetings in China

During her travels, Laurel also visited leading law firms in China—Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. These meetings focused on building practical cross-border partnerships and reinforced the importance of culturally attuned, strategic legal guidance, especially when supporting Chinese clients with outbound investments and UK market entry.

Collaborating with Lawrence Cheung Accountancy, Hong Kong

Laurel also met with the team at Lawrence Cheung Accountancy in Hong Kong and discussed strategic support for Chinese corporate clients expanding overseas. Topics included structuring Hong Kong holding companies for European operations, ensuring tax efficiency, and creating a one-stop-shop solution for businesses seeking transcontinental legal, financial, and strategic guidance.

Strengthening European Ties in Madrid

At the beginning of May, Laurel headed to Madrid to attend the ALCE Annual Conference, which welcomed over 100 members from across Europe, including a substantial contingent of foreign-qualified lawyers and international legal experts. This conference provides a rich environment for sharing best practices, understanding cross-border legal trends, and connecting with peers from various jurisdictions.

This year’s conference followed the highly successful 2024 edition hosted by Sherrards in London – a standout event which welcomed over 300 delegates from around the globe, and further cemented Sherrards’ role as a key facilitator of international legal collaboration. Laurel’s presence in Madrid built upon that legacy, reinforcing the firm’s visibility and influence within the global legal network.
