Working in property law is demanding — it’s fast-paced, deadline-driven, and often unpredictable. Add to that the responsibilities of being a parent to two young children, one at school and one at nursery, and the balancing act becomes a daily reality.
Like many working parents, my day doesn’t necessarily end when I log off. Between the constant flow of emails, calls and meetings, business development, school admin and the occasional sleepless night, managing both professional and personal responsibilities requires constant coordination — and support. I’m fortunate to have an after-school nanny, which enables me to keep my workday going while still being there for nursery pick-up and evening routine with the children. And, like many others, I often log back on once the house is quiet to wrap up the day.
School holidays bring their own challenges, often requiring a careful mix of annual leave, holiday clubs, and family support. It’s not always seamless, but the key to making it work is flexibility — something I’m grateful to have at Sherrards. I’m trusted to manage my time and encouraged to grow in my role, which makes a significant difference not only to my performance but also to my wellbeing.
I take real pride in my work. I genuinely enjoy building strong client relationships and am committed to delivering the highest standard of service throughout every stage of their property transaction. Being part of a firm that values both professional excellence and personal wellbeing makes all the difference. For me, work is not only a space to grow and be challenged – it’s also a refreshing change of pace from the demands of parenting. I find real fulfilment in the variety and complexity of my role, and I truly value having something that’s my own.
I work alongside a team of supportive and inspiring colleagues, many of whom are also parents navigating similar challenges. That shared understanding helps create an environment where we lift each other up, and where the pressures of home and work life are acknowledged rather than hidden.
I love being present for my family while continuing to build a career I care about. It’s not always easy, but with the right culture and support, it’s possible.
As we mark Mental Health Awareness Week, it’s a timely reminder that balance, flexibility, and empathy in the workplace aren’t just nice to have — they’re essential for our wellbeing, both in and out of the office.
