Jan Kunstyr is a Legal Director in Sherrards’ Dispute Resolution team. He is dual qualified as an English Solicitor (Solicitor Advocate) and a Czech Advocate, and advises on complex, cross-border disputes with a particular focus on international arbitration and public international law.

Jan’s work covers international commercial arbitration, investment treaty arbitration and court proceedings across multiple jurisdictions. He has experience of matters before the English courts and proceedings under ICC, LCIA, DIFC, LAMC, CEPANI, CAMARB and ICSID. He acts for a wide range of clients, from small businesses and high net-worth individuals to international corporations and state-related entities, often on matters involving sensitive issues and high strategic value.

Jan’s approach is calm and methodical. He focuses on understanding the wider context of a dispute and giving clear, practical advice throughout its lifecycle. Clients value his ability to navigate unfamiliar legal frameworks, manage complex disputes efficiently and bridge differences across legal systems, languages and cultures. Jan works in English and Czech/Slovak, and has working proficiency in Japanese, Spanish and French.

Outside of client work, Jan has been appointed by Czech courts as an expert on English law. He is also a member of the British Japanese Law Association and the Czech Association of English Law.
