Specialist Legal Support for the Art World
Our role as legal sponsor reflects our longstanding expertise advising artists, collectors, galleries, and families on the unique opportunities and challenges in the art and heritage sectors. Through our involvement with London Art Fair, we are proud to be recognised for our straightforward, personable approach and our ability to help clients safeguard their artistic and cultural legacies for future generations.
Protecting Artistic Legacies
A highlight of this year’s programme is a talk hosted by Arthur Byng Nelson, Partner and Head of Art & Heritage at Sherrards. Arthur will lead a discussion with Clio David, daughter of the post-war British painter Yasmin David. Together, they will explore the fascinating journey to uncover, preserve and reposition a remarkable body of unseen work by Yasmin David, and share first-hand insight into the emotional, legal and practical realities of managing an artist’s estate.
From authentication and archiving to legacy planning and market positioning. The session will offer invaluable guidance for collectors, galleries, heirs and professionals navigating the increasingly complex responsibilities of estate stewardship in today’s art world. All issues that resonate throughout the creative community and beyond.
Arthur is widely regarded for his specialist knowledge in art-related matters. He advises artists and those responsible for artists’ estates — such as family members, executors, and trustees — on legal, commercial and strategic planning. As one international artist client puts it: “This guy is saving my life!”
Arthur also advises collectors and owners of art and heritage property on tax matters specific to this area, such as the Acceptance in Lieu Scheme, Conditional Exemption, and the Cultural Gifts Scheme. Clients value his ability to understand family dynamics and to offer sensitive, effective advice in complex situations.
