3rd June 2024 | Abby Cowan | Sustfest, Sustainability, St Albans
This June, Sherrards is proud to sponsor the St Albans District Sustainability Festival (Sustfest), running from the 7th to 16th of June.
The festival kicks off with it’s headline event, The Sustfest EXPO, held at the Alban Arena. This event is organised by a group of dedicated sustainable St Albans volunteers. The EXPO will feature workshops, speakers, presentations, exhibits and activities that all highlight everything from sustainable fashion to how to harness nature’s power for good.
Throughout the week, a range of activities will be hosted by various businesses, organisations and volunteers across St Albans and surrounding areas, who are all eager share their insights around sustainability and what we can do to help our planet.

Not only are we sponsoring the event, but Sherrards have started their own gardening club at the firm to encourage their employees to get involved and share their love for the outdoors. This initiative aims to promote sustainability within the workplace by creating green spaces, fostering a connection with nature, and enhancing employee well-being.
One of our employees, Abby Cowan, Marketing Assistant shared her gardening tips.
“I really got into gardening last year to help with my mental health. One tip I learnt was that Hydrangeas and roses are natural repellent for slugs due to their strong scents. This saved some of my vegetables and plants and has added more colour into the garden.”
Additionally, we are continuing to shop local when purchasing gifts and gestures to clients and friends of the firm. We are also investing in energy saving light bulbs and supporting local businesses within the area.
We have significantly reduced our paper use over the last year as we are implementing more paperless systems including DocuSign and Legl.
We also recycle all our wastepaper via Shred-on-site, who plant tress per amount recycled. Last year we recycled over 2899 kg of paper.
