Sherrards’ Managing Partner, Alasdair McMillin, and Nicole Marmor, Head of their German Desk, joined with senior commercial partner Jürgen Philipp of Dachs Bartling Spohn & Partner, to present to the Alliott Group Annual Conference in Madrid how the two law firms had collaborated on a cross-border sports-related legal engagement.
Jürgen explained how Dachs have expanded their sports desk with the recent hire of ex-professional footballer turned a lawyer, Michael Maier, after his professional footballing career in Germany was cut short by injury. Dachs’ client, a German football agent, was in negotiations with a Bundesliga player who was transferring agents and although everything was based in Germany the contractual documentation was governed by English law, and the English Football Association’s rules.
Jürgen reported how he had turned to Sherrards’ Employment Department and German Desk, and Alasdair explained that this kind of work is bread-and-butter for Sherrards’ Employment team. Nicole added that in her role as the head of the firm’s German desk she is always delighted to assist on reviewing German documents, being bilingual in German and English, having completed part of her degree in Marburg University. Most appropriately of all, Nicole is a keen follower of the German national side!
This is a great example of two firms working together on a cross-border matter for the benefit of their clients.
